Finished a semi-hollow
Finished a semi-hollow
Finished an Aztec-themed guitar.
I designed the body, neck angle, and head location to fit me.
Mesquite on Maple.
SD P-Rail, Lace Deathbucker.
Schaller bridge, Grover tuners.
24.5 scale, 14" radius.
Nitro Lacquer finish.

That is a nice guitar Dan!
Mesquite top, maple back. What is the is the darker accent wood?
I really like the soundhole.
Tell us more about the electronics and binding.

Looks slick! The binding and details are awesome.
How do you like that Lace pickup? I've always been curious about those.

That's really cool, Dan. I gotta get my hands on some mesquite!
Interesting pickup combo. Yes, please tell more about the switching.

The fretboard binding is Padauk, all other "dark" wood is Mesquite.
The binding was a pain to make and learn to bend.
I made the mistake of gluing it when it was raining outside. The binding started coming loose, so I did the best I could to clean and reglue it.
Two-way pickup switch, two volume controls.
I have a three way toggle to switch the P-Rail to P only, Rail only, or both is series.
The Lace Deathbucker has a coil-split type of switch.
I was shocked the hardware added so much weight to it.
The body is a rim I cut out of glued-up Maple chunks.
There's a block under the bridge between the top and back plates.
Humidity changes open and close the plate seams, so the rim wasmnot a great idea.

Dan, I like the Deathbucker so far.Dan Hehnke wrote:Looks slick! The binding and details are awesome.

It has a flat, uncolored sound that sounds great with solid-state distortion.

My Mesquite is free.

Dan. I've never used mesguite, so I don't know what it looks like.
So the guitar is maple maple with mesquite accents.
Could you explain the sides/rims a bit more?

Re: Finished a semi-hollow
I'll let Dan speak more to the material he has, but some of the mesquite I've seen can look as simple as plain cherry or as lit up as koa.Gordon Bellerose wrote:Dan. I've never used mesguite, so I don't know what it looks like.

Re: Finished a semi-hollow
I glued up three large chunks of Maple and cut the rim out of it.
Because of the short grain along the bottom, it moves with humidity changes.
The finished paint on the sides is translucent red over black: color of blood.
Mesquite can range from pink to dark brown.
Here's another Mesquite fretboard.
Thanks for the kind comments!
