modding thumbpots

Post by Jedi Clampett »

I am modding a guitar to be left handed, I realize that I need 500k audio reverse taper pots, just wondering if I use thumbpots from WDmusic 500k to flip the wafer and get a reverse taper pot. I have no specs on the thumb pots, but as an alternative, I might be able to mount them to a floating pickguard made for left hand.

Flipping the wafer isn't going to be an option on most pots.
You could get these:

Or just try some linear pots and switch the outer lug wires.
Or leave it wired for RH and let the player figure it out?
I'm not sure how practical 4 under-the-pickguard thumbpots would be anyway.

ive done thumb pots and they are a pain to use as you would on a 335. Ill second using lin taper pots and wire using the other outer lug there are tons of wiring on line. Google is your friend.

One can use linear pots with resistors between one or both outer lugs to modify the taper, but it requires some calculations and experimenting....
An Excel sheeet with 10% stepping of the linear value and the parallelled resistors will give a indication of the curve.....
