MIMF Spring 2014 Newsletter

The place to chat with your fellow MIMForum members about whatever you want that doesn't relate to instruments, or isn't specific to one instrument family. Pull up a chair, grab a cold one out of the virtual 'fridge, and tell your friends what's on your mind.

MIMF Spring 2014 Newsletter

Post by Charlie Schultz »

Spring 2014 MIMF Newsletter

Hello everyone!

These newsletters are also posted on the forum, so if you're reading it there and did not get the e-mail, check your spam filters. I get a *lot* of bounced e-mails.

A New Challenge
The concept for this challenge is to "try something new/different". So for example, if you normally build electric guitars, maybe be a little different and try a classical. Or be even more different and try a bowed instrument, or wind instrument, or even some drums or something experimental. If you don't have a "normal" build, then try your hand at something you might not otherwise try. Also, you don't have to start from scratch- if you've got something different you started a while ago, you're welcome to finish it for this challenge. New techniques are also acceptable.

The challenge will start now and will run over the summer (ending on August 31). There is no dollar limit (thought it might be fun to track how much you spend if you want). There will be the usual $10 entry fee.

MIMF Birthday Auction?
If I get enough donations, we'll have a MIMF birthday auction in July. So if you have anything you'd like to donate (new or used (but serviceable)), please drop me a PM. Thanks!

MIMF Archtop Project
Michael Lewis is still looking for a little help on the MIMF archtop project, check out the discussion here: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=540

Like the MIMF on Facebook!
We're sociable! Like us here: https://www.facebook.com/MIMForum
Please don't post instrument questions on Facebook, we'll mainly use it for announcements and other news about the forum (e.g. server outages, etc.). Wait, there's more! We've resurrected our YouTube channel (thanks Clint Searcy) and we're looking for content. Let us know if you have something (must be non-commercial and not show unsafe tool usage). If we accept your video, in appreciation I'll give you an MIMF plan of your choice or an item from our CafePress store.

MIMF stuff
As always, MIMF plans are available (we've recently added a tenor plan based on a Martin O18T). And we've got a CafePress store now open, featuring the original MIMF artwork (thanks to Dan Sharp) on t-shirts, sweatshirts, coffee mugs and steins. The forum gets 20% of the sales price. For info, photos and the shop link, see here: http://www.mimf.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=2333

Tutorials, etc.
Got an idea for (or needing) a tutorial? Contact us and we'll see what we can do.

Support the MIMF
If you do business with our sponsors (Stew Mac, Alaska Specialty Woods or Acme Archtops), please thank them for their support. Their $$ support is based on their value of our site!

Also remember to help support the MIMF by purchasing through (clicking on) our links to Amazon, Rockler and Woodcraft (see the home page footer). Thanks!

And a big thanks to all of you who make direct contributions.

Staff
As always, my thanks and appreciation to the excellent MIMF volunteer staff: Mark Swanson, Barry Daniels, Greg Robinson and Jim McConkey.

Thanks for your support and participation!
