Alto Saxophone

Post by Mariska Swart »

Hi everyone. I was wondering if you could give me your opinion on which would be a better buy and why?
Chateau Alto Saxophone or Bach Prelude Alto Sax?
Thanks in advance.

I am a middle school band director and last year we bought two Château saxes. Tenor and alto. I'm very pleased with both saxes. Bach is not well known in the woodwinds. Brass yes. My two best tbns. are Bachs. I was told the Châteaus were made in the same factories as Cannonball saxes.

Even a sax must suit the player in sound and ergonomic layout. They are not completely standardized. And there is a lot of variability by the mouth piece, where also one does not fit all needs.
So there isn't necessarily one best instrument for all players, isn't it?

Neither is an "investment", per se. Bach doesn't make saxophones, so they are out. They only make brass instruments, not woodwinds. Chateau is a current Tiawanese factory instrument, they have around a half dozen different models from entry level student to entry level pro, and if you like one that you can afford, they have a good reputation. But not an investment grade instrument like a vintage Selmer MK6 or MK7 would now be.

This is like asking which car is a better investment, a Kia or a Hyundai?
