If you look at Ken Parker's guitar, it uses a similar tailpiece anchor, small post with a ball. It is in this issue of Fretboard Journal.

The tailpiece on that one is solid, with a pair of ebony bent laminations around the outside edge. They are joined with long scarf joints on opposite sides of the tailpiece. Both were glued on at the same time; I may have used a large hose clamp for that, but it has been a while.
