Been a while - Got a couple of projects now

So I have been out for a while, I'm working on a couple of fun little projects.

The first is what I have dubbed as McWormy. A double cut body out of wormy ash. I'll be filling the holes with tinted/glow epoxy for what will hopefully be a pretty cool effect.

The other is an onboard tube screamer effect. I've created a prototype of it with veroboard and that worked well so I took the schematic and ordered some custom circuit boards and I'll be trying this out in McWormy.

The epoxy should be a cool effect!
Wow. Some of you guys are much more advanced than I am in the wiring department.

And on another guitar I'm fighting a grounding issue somewhere so I tore out the wiring and started over being more careful as to where my grounds are tied in. Got just a tiny bit to get that wired back up and plug it in to see how quiet it is. This one has the veroboard protoype board of the tubescreamer effect. It worked well when I put it into a box for testing but has been noisy in the guitar.

AFAIK there is the possibility to tint the epoxy with luminescence color. An example has recently been shown on the Holy Grail Guitar Show in Berlin - this instrument: https://www.saitenkraft.ch/jk-mk-ii-t-legacy there exist a documentation of the building process in a german speaking forum. A cannot provede the link because that would be against the policies here.

I have put glow powder, blue tint, and pearl powder into it :)

Here's a few shots of McWormy. It's been slow but I should be purchasing some hardware for it before too long. Gotta sand back the shellac again and apply another coat before sanding and applying the poly. The control cavity cover is being re-done so I'll have to fill the pores in that. The one here turned into a potato chip when I glued on a veneer so the new one is a solid piece of mahogany instead.

Pretty cool!
Does it glow in the dark?

Yes, pretty cool. But why blue and not something like red or a dark, slightly orange yellow?
How did You ensure the worms/beetles were not active anymore? Isopropanol?

It was a kiln dried piece so the wormies should be dead. I did treat it extensively with some minwax wood hardener also.

I just thought blue would look good and give a bit more glow then it would with a darker color.

The wood also has some bluish streaking in it that is kind of subtle.

got a black hipshot bridge on it's way :) going with all black hardware on this one. knobs will be black knurled with abalone caps. I'll be putting a GFS fat pat into the bridge spot and a dream 90 into the neck.

Cool! Can't wait to see it done. Maybe I'm missing this, but what kind of Poly are you using for the final coats?

I'm using Spraymax 2K again. It has worked very well for me in the past. My spray gun kind of sucks and this stuff is a proper 2K clear in a can. Makes for a silky smooth neck too, especially with a bit of was applied.

So I finished up mcwormy! I need to take a video or 2 of it sometime. It plays very well.

This includes the onboard tube screamer, GFS crunchy pat in the bridge, GFS dream 90 in the neck. Wilkinson ezlock tuners, strap locks, control cavity cover is held in place with magnets so that the battery is easy to change. the bridge is a hipshot with an aluminum spacer under it.

I became burned out on building electric guitars -- seen it, done it, blah blah blah. But yours is just way cool and inspiring. I've scored a large neon sign transformer. Thanks for waking me up.

I've got some Manzanita fingerboard material with carpenter ant trails in it, Inspiration :!: .

I'm thinking a P90 based Tele build with a set neck on the next one.
