Fired Ceramic Electric Guitar from the 60s

Post by Jim McConkey »

Over the years MIMF members have built guitars from more materials that we can count, from burlap to barbecues, but I don't remember any pottery. MIMF Sponsors StewMac just posted this cool video about an unusual ceramic guitar. Yes, you heard right, fired clay! Dan Erlewine does some historical detective work on the guitar and visits Ohio State University's ceramics program to find out how it was probably made. Ideas for the next challenge? Enjoy!

That's crazy! I know I've always wished I could fire a glaze and use that for a finish, instead of spraying stupid lacquer, haha.

Man, I would be so nervous handling that thing so much! I can just picture it being dropped and hitting the ground and boom.... a hundred pieces....
