Does Fret Crowning effect Fret Buzz?

Post by Nick Sorenson »

I've always assumed crowning frets makes them more comfortable for the player and helps the guitar play in tune better due to a smaller contact point.

But does the crowning of frets affect the amount of fret buzz in a guitar?

Hi Nick,

I would have to say it does, if you've ever strung up a guitar after leveling the frets but before crowning them, you'll observe the effect. This is because the string will tend to "lie" on the fret rather than have a single, distinct point of contact.
