Birds eye fingerboard

Post by Len McIntosh »

Im using birds eye as i want a "white" fingerboard but reading a recent thread realized time and dirt on fingers could stain it -
what finish or treatment will help keep it white?
Fyi there will be a ebony inlay of a mast - bridge is the hull - pickguard the spinnaker).

You might contact Larry Davis for some acrylized maple for your fingerboard. It is treated with a liquid acrylic under pressure and then heated to harden the liquid. It fills the pores so dirt shouldn't get into it, and It will buff to a gloss. Short of using that material you can use epoxy, super glue, lacquer, or a polyester resin to seal and protect the wood.
