Truss rod question

Post by Michael Baresi »

I'm building a OO parlor that calls for LMI's trsd trussrod which is 15.5 inches long. I have a double action tr that I would like to use that measures 14.25.
My question is, can I install it 1 inch closer to the headblock? This will mean that it is 1 inch from the nut. Will this be a problem. I hate to spend $35 to order the lmi rod when I already have a good one.

I don't foresee a problem with that. The stress on a neck from string tension is negligible between the first fret and the nut.
If you wanted some extra insurance you could extend your CF reinforcement out into the headstock. A good volute might also serve you well.

Thanks David. I don't usually add a volute but I think its a good idea this time.
