Western White Pine tone?

Post by Michael Murray »

I'm considering making a couple ukuleles. I have some Englemann Spruce & Western Red-cedar for tops. But, I've always thought about making a top with White Pine (Pinus monticola).

My back and sides will be Western Yew. Anybody know how white pine might compare to spruce and red-cedar for tone?

Thanks,
Michael

A few years ago I made two guitars with pine soundboards for one of our challenges. They were both small travel guitars, but they sound great, and have held up very well. I keep one of them at work, to play at lunch all the time. One is an all pine guitar, soundboard, back and sides. You may have trouble "selling" a pine guitar, but I enjoy playing mine. It was a good experiment.
