Top distortions in first acoustic?

Post by Bill Bell »

I just finished my first fully acoustic guitar, a classical. I sealed the guitar with shellac and then completed everything but the top with wipe on poly. Everything looks good except when I look at the top at a glancing angle I can see distortion from braces or ?? There's nothing I can do at this point, correct? Is this a problem? Have other people seen this?

If you are talking about fan braces, it's not uncommon to see telegraphing of the braces through the top. It can be cause by a number of things - gluing clamp(or go-bar) pressure, high water content in the glue, and a thin top, are some of them.
