Just want to say thanks...

Post by Steve Sawyer »

I just spent some time on another forum that focuses on a technical specialty. Fell into a thread that went on for PAGES filled with ridicule of the OP (who had the same question I had) for not doing his own research, not knowing how to do an Internet search, being the type of person that has to be spoon-fed etc. etc.

And despite all the abuse heaped on the OP, the original question was never answered. Someone finally (about two pages in) correctly stated the OP's original question, but still did not give what I believe to be (based on my 45 minutes of Internet research) a useful response.

I just want to say "THANKS" for the kindness and patience exhibited on this forum, something that a noob like me REALLY appreciates.

Ugh. I’ll second that. It’s so good to have experts who don’t crap all over a neophyte. Thank you!

Yep. The people here have helped me immensely. All without any ridicule.
Thank you for helping me develop my skills.
I need your help. I can't possibly make all the mistakes myself!

I think it is part of the Deb Suran legacy, when rudeness of any sort wasn't tolerated and received a quick Whap! Another thing she demanded was that people use their own names so you couldn't hide behind a pseudonym. That Charlie has carried on those traditions I think has kept this an enjoyable place to visit and participate.

I agree wholeheartedly with the real names policy. Besides the probable moderation of bad behavior, some people insist on adopting the most ridiculous and frequently obnoxious monikers. I'm a member of another forum, and really cringe when I have to refer to another member as "Rancid RumpBoogie"

I've been doing string instrument repairs professionally for nearly twenty years and there are things that I'm really really good at but there is hardly a day that goes by when I don't wish for some mentor or person with more experience of what ever challenge is sitting in front of me. I've never been made to feel like an idiot with some questions that on the surface may sound like they are coming from an idiot. Any true craftsperson loves their craft and works toward sharing the knowledge and perpetuating the craft. I learn something new every day. The craft of luthery is an endless adventure.

Mark, I also learn something new every day. The problem is, I forget two things.

Ah yes, the old Suran Whap!
