March 2012 Newsletter

The place to chat with your fellow MIMForum members about whatever you want that doesn't relate to instruments, or isn't specific to one instrument family. Pull up a chair, grab a cold one out of the virtual 'fridge, and tell your friends what's on your mind.

March 2012 MIMF Newsletter

Hello everyone!
If you don't want to receive these newsletters please see the removal instructions at the bottom of this e-mail.

Lose us?? We're now back at http://www.mimf.com/phpbb. We always planned to change our domain name back to mimf.com but I guess we could have planned better (sorry!). At any rate, Deb has finished up with the old server and it has been taken down and we switched our domain name from "tngforum.mimf.com" back to "mimf.com"- it took a couple days for that to propagate through the intertubes network so there was some strange behavior for a while. Please update your bookmarks and spam filters accordingly. We are still working on getting the old (and new) library/archive up again, so hang on a little longer.

We've been on the new software for a few months now, I hope everyone is getting used to it. We'll still be making improvements on the new site over time, so bear with us. And suggestions are welcome.

A tip: If you don't like seeing avatars or signatures, you can disable them in your User Control Panel. Ditto for smilies.

Auction Extravaganza!!
We've got a lot of stuff in the auctions this time around, you can check it out here: http://mimf.com/phpbb/viewforum.php?f=23. The auction closes at 9:00 PM (server time) on Sunday, April 1st (no fooling!). You must be a legitimately registered member to participate!

100% of all money raised by the auction (and any donations you may want to make) will go to our retiring sysop, Deb Suran as she starts her new agricultural venture. I doubt we'll get enough for her to get a truck, but hopefully we can help.

Rules changes!!
We've tweaked some of the rules, you can see them here: http://www.mimf.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=2#p2

Some highlights:
1. You can add a photo to your classified ad (as an attachment) now
2. Commercial ads are now free in "Builder's Supplies and Services"
3. *Useful* links to commercial sites can be posted now. For example, if you are documenting a kit build somewhere, you may post it in a message. By *useful* we mean something that is both useful to our members and does not contain a significant amount of commercial content. As always, you may also ask us to post such a link on our "links" pages.
4. Signatures may include a link.

Other factoids:
1. Atttachment size has been bumped from 50k to 150k and you may attach 3 photos per post. As has been mentioned before, we prefer to have relevant photos attached to posts because linked photos tend to disappear over time and when they do, they detract from the value of the thread.
2. Sound snips (.mp3) are limited to 200k.

Challenge!!
Ok, the next $100 challenge will start April 1st (no fooling). See here for the rules: http://www.mimf.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=3323#p3323

I will keep the current challenge thread to capture more ideas, so keep them coming!

Builder's Groups!!
We'll be setting up a discussion on member-related local builders' groups again. Send us a blurb to put in "Builders Supplies and Services" forum if you're involved in a builders' group where you live. Please note that the information you put out in public should should not include any personal contact information like an individual's street address or a personal e-mail address or phone number, even if that information is only available to registered users

Plans
I'm still rounding up the plan files and I've got a lead on a place to get them plotted.

New affiliate!!
You may have noticed that we've added Woodcraft to our list of affiliates (see the home page footer). If you patronize Woodcraft, please try and remember to go to their site through our link and you'll be helping to support the forum. Thanks!

Thanks for your support!
