Southern Violin Association

Post by Charlie Schultz »

Please help us get the word out about a regional violin makers association with a focus on the southern states from Kansas south and east (although ANYONE can be a member). The association is seeking members including all violin-family instrument makers, bow makers, and players that are interested in the making process.

We have a new website up at http://southernviolinassociation.com and invite you to visit us there to find out more, or for joining information.

We have an upcoming "field trip" to Howard Core company in Anniston, Alabama for Oct 26. Howard Core is one of the world's largest wholesaler of violin-family parts and supplies, from tone wood to tone generators. They will be providing us with space to hold our general membership meeting, as well as a visit and purchasing opportunity there at the warehouse with some sort of undisclosed "deals" for members. Lots of members will be bringing their shopping list for next years production. Anyone interested is invited, but to get the "deals" you'll need to be a current member of the organization.

Late next APRIL, 2013 we're planning a MAKERS COMPETITION similar to the format used by the Violin Society of American (perhaps with a southern twist -- including separate class for instruments set up as "fiddles"). It will be in the Nashville area, and we're currently talking to the School of Music at Belmont University to see if they can host the event (no promises, but we're working on it).

Go directly to the site for information on joining. And thanks!!
