Cardinal Lacquer from LMI - Anyone use it?

Post by Chuck Tweedy »

Hey Peoples,
Good to be in the new digs here. Anyhow...

Title says most of my question. LMI has this new product from a pretty respectable paint company - Cardinal - and I was wondering if anyone has tried it yet.

I'm just trying to remove myself from the stigma of spraying shellac, so I thought maybe I should try spraying something that is - well - supposed to be sprayed.

why... you just need to re-educate those poor unwashed masses to see the true light of FP. Exchanging one vice for another is not rehabilitation, and I think you truly know that in your heart.

Too much washing to do Randy.
What I know in my heart - is that I'd like to sell guitars. Nitro's not so bad, all the cool kids are doing it!
Plus, I want to get one of those giant buffing wheels that looks like a dozen t-shirts in a tornado!!

It's the giant paint booth and explosion proof fan that runs up the tab!

I have no experience with cardinal lacquer. I looked at the price on the LMII website, and was hit with a bit of sticker shock. Nitro lacquer has had some price jumps recently that don't make sense to me. The first two gallons of Mohawk instrument lacquer I bought were priced at $29/gallon. Six month's later the price was closer to $40/gal. If prices keep following this trend I may have to learn to spray shellac! <g>

Hi Chuck,
I just happened to notice there was some discussion on the OLF about Cardinal lacquer (about three pages back). Those that used it liked the short cure time, others commented on the price much as I did.

I received a very reasonable quote from Cardinal Lacquer for the product itself, but the $400+ hazmat fee for delivery to Canada takes it off the list of options. No dealers in Canada yet.

Thanks for the point toward OLF Clay. Seems to be a good product from all reports. Expensive maybe, but maybe I can get it cheaper from them direct - just up in LA.
