Hi, I think you'll find this video fascinating, aside from the topic of making a useful shopmade vise. As for the materials, since casting bronze is not a common skill these days, I'd suggest that the slide lock be made from baltic birch plywood, or fashioned from a piece of steel bar stock, bent and welded.

I checked out a few of his other videos. The guy is a true craftsman and it is a treat just to watch him work. Thanks for posting that Bob.

At the risk of overdoing something that is already excellent, I wonder if some sort of socket plate on the floor might be useful. Also, maybe one could make the lower part that bears against the bench in an octagonal shape to add more working positions
