peg shaper

Post by John Willman »

I have just been trying out a new peg shaper that so far has come up to my expectations,so I will give some details.

The peg shaper consists of four components and six bolts. A blade platform and peg platform are made from 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 x 1/4" steel angle, the peg guide from 1 1/2 x 3/8 steel which has a 60 degree bearing face to prevent the peg rising. The blade is salvaged from a heavy crosscut saw, from which numerous other tools have been made. Slots in the blade platform and peg guide enable the user to vary the angles to suit the peg being worked on. I initially set the blade high for a cello peg so the action is a cutting one like a pencil sharpener, but I suppose it would also be possible to have it on the centre line for a scraping action.
The bolts each have a plain and spring washer so the lightly clamped components can be tapped into position.
Although I have some machining facilities, most of the work was done with an angle grinder.
