Hi.
I want to avoid patch cables in a couple of places.

To substitute a direct connection from output #1 to input # 2 is it just a matter of running a wire connecting the hot tabs on the respective female jack plugs?
Do the respective earths need to connected as well?

In short - how do I do it?

Thanks,
Rob.

Robert - electrically, yes - you must also connect the ground (ring) of the jacks as well.

The signal wire really should be shielded or you may pick up noise. The best is the same shielded wire as used in a guitar cable, the shield is the earth path, or twisted pair where one wire is signal and the other is earth. I seem to recall dual male 1/4" plugs that made a zero length solid connection between two sockets.
