modify 5 way switch

Post by Robert Smallwood »

Hi.
I have a 5 way 4 pole switch which I want to use elsewhere in a two pickup + dummy coil set up. eg I have the Blueshawk wiring....BUT that would leave 2 positions redundant or not used.

So is there a backwards conversion to turn a 5 way switch to a 3 way switch as per the original strat?

Or - can i buy a 4 pole 3 throw switch anywhere?

Thanks,
Rob.

Both options are probably possible but the 3 throw, 4 pole switch won't be a CRL style blade switch.
You'd need to cannibalize a 3 way switch of the same exact style to get the mechanical elements you'd need. You shouldn't need to alter the electrical elements since the 2 and 4 positions simply wouldn't be connected at all.
My best guess is that you'll soon give this whole idea up as supremely impractical and find something useful to do with positions 2 and 4.

You'd be surprised how many options you could find for those two extra positions. This site kinda blows my mind https://sites.google.com/site/phostenix ... grams/home
