Looking for advice on capacitor for baritone

Post by Jim Bonnell »

I'm wiring a baritone which has two P-90s and 250K pots. What would be a good capacitor match for it? Being a baritone I'm not sure if the most desirable cap would be different than what I would normally use.

Start with a .047µFd and see what you think. If it cuts too much into the midrange then drop it to a .022µFd. If it isn't doing much of anything then try a .1µFd. Basically the same values you'd find in any bass or guitar.

As David says above.

If the pots are hard to get to when the guitar is wired up, I'd pull a wire from the tone pot to the outside, then connect different caps from it to ground. Or if you don't have a selection of caps but have several of the same value, you can wire them in series or parallel to get the values you need. For example, two 0.05uF (or 0.047) in series will give 0.025uF, or two in parallel 0.1uF.
Maybe I can't fix it, but I can fix it so no one can fix it
