Using a push/pull volume as a series/parallel switch

Post by Kurt Veltman »

Does anyone happen to have a schematic on how to wire a two-pickup bass with a push/pull volume as a series/parallel switch? If it matters, the pickups are DiMarzio jazz-type. The other controls are blend and tone. Thanks for any help, from an electronics novice.

Maybe I can't fix it, but I can fix it so no one can fix it

Wonderful! These also have a red and green wire. I would guess the red to be power/hot for an active system? Thanks for the help Peter - that was easier than I expected. (Makes me feel foolish for not finding it myself.)

Dimarzios are usually humbuckers with 4 wires. I doubt very much that they are active pickups, they just use a different color code than most other pickups but you can look all that up online.

Correct, not active, but they are dual-coil humbuckers. You will need to use all of the wires Kurt, and connect them in the proper way. You will need to connect two of the wires from each pickup together, and just use the other two in your bass wiring. I believe you will want to connect the black and white wires together, and use the red for hot and the green for ground.

I found this page very helpful when I wired a Carvin schematic with the Seymour Duncan color coding I use. This whole website is pretty frickin' awesome. http://www.guitarelectronics.com/catego ... lor_codes/
