Nice job Chuck!
Also noticed you probably have the only garage in the US with sound baffles . Is that to block the sound of you working from leaking into the house? I would think the kids are old enough they have probably heard all those words before. Or is your playing the problem?

Re: matching the chayotiance of a four-piece top
You got it right Bob, "flip" it to the "other" side. The other Bob is also right. Whenever I did this, I always had the straight edge of the cut out waist piece to abut to the straight edge of the opposite side lower bout, and the "bump out" of the cut out protruding ou...

Re: "Kelobre"?
Peter, Really pretty rosette. If it's pithy, which a lot of spalted wood can be, you might want to "toughen" it up with thin CA before putting it into the top. Just use a small amount at a time so that the glue doesn't Chernobyl on you and turn white. And don't forget to paint the trough i...

Peter, Not to change directions, but check the library for a ton of ideas with the rosettes. http://www.mimf.com/library/Methods_for_making_rosettes_from_plain_or_highly_figured_spalted_woods__construction_techniques_and_the_use_of_multiple_fitted_or_bookmatched_pieces__or_one_solid_piece__Pictures_...

Thanks also for the photos, makes the description perfectly clear.

Oh geez, Walnut Rescue. I'd forgotten. not to sidetrack the thread, but I gotta ask, do you still have the video of when you were resawing it and trying your best to cover your surprise at the un-oxidized yellow wood that appeared?
I'd give my eye teeth to watch that again.

Re: Shop air filtration build - Advise welcome
Chuck, May not apply to your garage shop situation, but I remember many years ago Mario posted about his system. It involved using the space between the studs as his ducting. I think he converted the door of a floor level cabinet to hold the filter(s), so it drew off the lowest air in the room, had ...

Re: Osage Orange slab- yes, no?
Osage Orange has been discussed quite a few times here. It is considered by many to be a dead ringer acoustically for Brazilian Rosewood, though obviously not visually. do a search of the library, that's what it's there for, and I think we forget how much really valuable information is there. Here's...

Re: color change of Cherry sapwood and maple?
Brian, I've used a fair amount of cherry, (5 pieces of furniture, and redid the bathroom in cherry, and a couple guitars), and really love the stuff. But it darkens unpredictably so I would make your ascetic choices on the other characteristics, like your quartersawn rays, sapwood pattern, etc. My e...

Re: Laminated neck glue
This might be off topic, but make sure your middle lamination is thinner, or else wider than whatever truss rod channel you will be subsequently cutting into the neck. If the center lamination is the same width as the truss rod's bearing end, you can end up with the force of the truss rod being a sh...

Re: Growing my own osage orange forest
For a while many years ago I had the largest coffee plantation in the state of Nebraska...4 trees about 5 feet high in pots planted from green beans I brought back from Kona, and dragged in and out of the house each fall and winter. Dropped all their leaves every winter after being dragged inside, b...

I don't see how you are going to keep them at 40% relative humidity. And how do you sand out the scratches...a walk on the beach?

Re: Retail CA - which is best?
I've always used the Satellite City "Hot Stuff" CA. Just bought it direct from them in 2 ounce bottles. Still have 3 or 4 in the freezer and last ordered probably 8 years ago. Last order I spent a great deal of time talking to the owner on the phone and learned a lot from him. CA will keep...

Re: Need some advice on fingerstyle guitars
Tim, What you hear, whether it's a guitar or someone's voice, or the birds chirping, no one else hears in same way. The same for them. Every single person's hearing is completely unique. Seeing comments, good or bad, is, and should be, meaningless for you. What they think they're hearing is no guide...

Re: Pattern repair
I've used similar stuff called Friendly Plastic and have found a lot of uses for it over the years, and with it being reusable, a jar lasts forever. Makes great cauls. If you have someone that just loves the profile of the neck on some guitar, you can duplicate it exactly. Just cut an arc profile, l...

Re: Thickness Sanding?
call a few cabinet shops in your area. They may well be willing to sand them down for you. You should probably take a sled ( a board as wide as your top and back or as long as your side, usually plywood, for your pieces to go through on top of) as the sanders they would run your boards through might...
