Been a while - Got a couple of projects now
So I have been out for a while, I'm working on a couple of fun little projects. The first is what I have dubbed as McWormy. A double cut body out of wormy ash. I'll be filling the holes with tinted/glow epoxy for what will hopefully be a pretty cool effect. The other is an onboard tube screamer effe...

Re: an easy-to-build small cyclone system that might work out very well for the entire place
I have a Thien baffle setup on a 50 gallon drum and it works very well. I just run that with a shop vac to pull dust/chips off of my cnc and it does an excellent job both of keeping the part clean and keeping all but the finest dust out of the shop vac.

Re: Veneer project
I did tape on the inside and outside. It was the seam tape with holes in it so that the glue gets in there. That worked well. I followed the fitting method of that fellow on ebay who was putting an ebony veneer onto an arch top piece of spruce I believe.

Re: laminating neck
I have done laminated necks but as a rule I don't have a glue joint in line with the truss rod. My feeling is that the glue joint is weaker than unmolested wood and since the neck is so thin there I want as much strength as possible. So I look at many other guitars by great builders and many have d...

Re: Veneer project
Very nice Dan! That is a sweet piece of veneer. I got a roller, glue, breather mesh, and SS2 from Joe as well Scored a free vacuum pump from work (they were tearing apart the QC lab and they used it for testing high altitude stuff) and made a bag from polyethylene scraps from our films division. Jus...

Same issue as you have, just can't redo the shop and work on projects at the same time. :o Not only that, but you still have work to do that involves tools, and I can't find ANYTHING. I was looking for something the other day and literally opened every cabinet and every drawer trying to find it ( a...

you could build a CNC router setup for that sort of price. It would be one of the wooden versions but those are very usable as well.

Re: Veneering guitar sides
You can vacuum press a veneer onto a carved top. The centerline of the veneer cannot be left straight though. There's a good demo of it being done on youtube. I followed that and did the veneer on this one: http://i927.photobucket.com/albums/ad119/machgt/guitar/IMG_20150801_141348_zpsfmd5jbv2.jpg ht...

I don't think I'd worry as much about getting a totally authentic bridge. You could just get a bridge that matches the thread and spacing on the OEM bridge
