Re: new member, 2nd build

Eric, I really like that! The stringers really set off the body and neck. While I do make archtop electric bodies for a couple clients, I've never built a complete guitar and i've got some inspiration now, thanks! I did build a "mule" guitar with humbucker/single coul, 5-way switch, and Gr...

Chad that came out awesome... I remember how much "fun" it was to rough out a chamber on a drill press... Love the work at the heel, very sleek...

Nice stuff Paul! I like the sparkle ones, they have a 'surf' vibe to them, and I love playing surf music!

Re: Fancy figured woods...

One of these days I hope to have the right timing to get to see Rick Hearne's personal stash. (Rick is a major hardwood dealer out of Oxford, PA, if you were unfamiliar) Rick has a personal collection of only ten boards, which is a promise he made to himself in order to avoid becoming a hoarder. I ...

Re: Louie Atienza's Hollow Quilt Top Tele

Thanks everyone for the kind words! Mark, it is a bolt-on... Have pics of the back coming. Yes the humbucker in the bridge, I figured someone would call me out on that. It's part of my Kramer/Charvel roots I guess! The neck pickup is actually a stacked single coil, so it is hum-cancelling as well! H...

Re: Laser Cutting Aluminum Frames for Steel Guitars

it's not that hard to clean up an aluminum edge if you have it laser cut. You could look at water jetting too. You just need to clean the edge after the fact. That isn't difficult to do. The only problem is, unless you have it cut with a 5-axis laser or water jet, there will be a draft on the edges...

Steve, I may be able to cut that out for you if you still need it. I have about a 30" x 32" x 6" work envelope on my machine.

Louie Atienza's Hollow Quilt Top Tele

I normally don't post pics of customers' guitars... But this one is a bit special. This will be going with me to the Philippines, and will be gifted to Church of St. Vicente in Bogo, Cebu. The top is part tiger stripe, part quilt, and maybe some small burl inclusions, bookmatched. The back was mille...

Re: Drying Wood Quickly

It looks like you're going to shell out the body itself to shed weight or possibly add tone chambers? If so, you might want to consider either making an inner frame of aluminum and making a top and back out of wood, or make the frame of wood and use aluminum plate for the top and back. Fender Custom...

Re: Fancy figured woods...

I don't like spending a lot of money on wood... Fortunately I've lucked myself into some nice pieces:

This is claro walnut, about 2-1/4" thick x about 9" x about 35"... I want to get this resawn, but haven't had the heart to cut it up, at least just yet.

Re: Wenge?

I am considering sending a sizeable billet of Wenge I have had sitting for a long while for resawing into boards suitable for back-and-side sets. The billet is beautifully dark and almost perfectly quartersawn. Does anyone have a recommendation for thickness? I've only used my trusty bending pipe, b...

Re: MIMF Archtop Guitar Project

Yes, I'm finally back... actually I was planning to come back last month but had to go to the Philippines for a few weeks to take care of some matters with my fiance. My apologies to all those waiting for me. I have had the neck blank glued up for quite some time now, so I'm ready to start carving. ...
