Bronze Powder Ratios
I just got several boxes filled with different color bronzing powder form the 30's and the 40's from an estate sale. I am currently spraying GF waterbased finishes. To just do a top what kind of ratios of powder to finish do you recommend? I would like good coverage hopefully in one coat but don't w...

Re: Pickup Magnet Charging Question
Thanks Barry, that makes sense. Just to experiment I left a bar in my jig for 15 min. and it never went up beyond 450ish. Does mass limit the charge irregardless of grade of Alnico?

Pickup Magnet Charging Question
Magnet question. When I charge rod magnets I get them in the 750 to 1000 range. When I charge bar magnets they get into the 350 to 500 range? Same grade of Alnico. I use the same set up for both with neos.
Why are my bar magnets not taking the same charge?

Re: Ground wire issue
Thanks Barry! I would use a strat PU for example, no base plate. I just wanted to double check my instinct that the shielding would be effective.

Ground wire issue
I am making some single coil pickups and I want to check my logic. I am using a 3 conductor cable (start, finish, bare wire ground to shielding in the cable). Do I need to connect the bare wire at BOTH ends (at the pickup and at the ground in the control cavity) to make the shielding effective? My l...

Re: Pearl Powder for Waterbased finish
I just did some sample pieces for the customers approval so I will post when I get it done. The customer wanted Pearl White so I laid down a coat straight white and got white mica powder to mix in with the next coat of clear. A little powder goes a long way and to much sort of defeats the effect odd...

Wide Range Pickup bobbins
Has anyone ever had a real Wide Range apart on their bench and taken measurements of the bobbins? I know the reissues just use regular sized HB bobbins and fill the space under the cover with ?? insulation or something.
Thanks!
Thanks!

I was thinking of having some of my B&S Torrified/Baked. Does if the treatment affects the bending ability or characteristics of the sides?

Re: Neck Laminations and Glue choice
Thank you Barry and Bob! Barry, I very much want to use HG but heating the parts that long and thin might be an issue. I just had a thought.. maybe I could lay them on a side bending blanket just before gluing?!? I travel thought Fredricksburg several times a year, lovely place. I am in Southern Mar...

Neck Laminations and Glue choice
I am making some 3 piece necks (mahogany) and am choosing between titebond (not my favorite for the creeping factor) Hide Glue ( don't like the open time) or Fish Glue (dont know enough about it and have seen conflicting information) Thought or Feelings??
Thanks
Thanks

Travel guitar headphone preamp?
I am looking to build a headless travel guitar. I was thinking of putting a headphone jack to get a more guitar like but was thinking of a "preamp" to drive the headphones or earbuds. Some of the simpler boost pedals have very few parts and lok like they can be made to fit in a guitar discreetly. An...

Band instrument repair
Hi Everyone, I am a long time guitar maker and repairman but have been asked to repair woodwinds and brass by several local stores due to the recent retirement of the only band tech in the area. I have replaced a couple of pads in my life but that is about it. Is there a repair and maintenance video...

Spray Booth Fan Recommendations
I am going to build a small portable spray "closet" that I can roll up to a window for exhaust. I need to do this because I usually spray outside but am getting enough repair and new work that I need to spray year-round. I mostly spray water based (HVLP and LVLP) but occasionally I have to repair la...

Old Taylor neck joint?
Customer called me about an old Taylor (SN 3477) and it sound like a reset is in order. What were the neck joints like on Taylors of that era? Glued on FB extension and flat bolt on heels?
Thanks!
Thanks!
